Durham Exchange Club Industries (DECI) is a private, nonprofit community-based vocational rehabilitation program, serving adults with disabilities in Durham, North Carolina. A self-supporting industry, DECI provides superior services to customers. The revenues earned by DECI's production services provide job training and job placement for adults who have disabilities, giving them the opportunity to work either at DECI or in the community.
DECI was founded in 1966 by the Durham Exchange Club as a sheltered workshop. Most workshops at the time provided craft activities rather than hands-on industrial training. DECI's idea was different - the best of both worlds: to provide the support offered by a sheltered program, and the atmosphere, expectations and job tasks of a genuine industry setting.
Programs are in place to teach work attitude, work habits and vocational skills. Each individual’s program is based on their strengths and preferences. Production jobs offer trainees a range of opportunities for testing their skills and learning new tasks. Flexibility in accepting many different kinds of work has always been a key to the success of DECI’s operations.

DECI is dedicated to providing quality services to both our customers and individuals who have disabilities. Customers return with more job opportunities, and spread the word that DECI performs high quality, dependable work at competitive prices.
DECI strengthens its business ties to the Durham community by providing competent and dependable workers to local businesses. The businesses benefit financially and are able to contribute to the community by providing hundreds of individuals who have disabilities with training and job opportunities.
