DECI Launches New Podcast Series: The DECI PodSquad

We’re proud to announce the official launch of The DECI PodSquad, a brand-new podcast series dedicated to amplifying voices, sharing meaningful stories, and diving deeper into the mission that drives us.

The first few episodes are available now on both YouTube and Spotify, and we invite you to tune in, subscribe, and follow along as we explore the topics that shape our community and the lives of those we serve.

Why a Podcast?

The DECI PodSquad is more than just a podcast, it’s a platform to:

  • Highlight the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities

  • Share DECI’s work, history, and future vision

  • Interview thought leaders, advocates, and elected officials

  • Bring visibility to the issues that impact our clients, families, and workforce

With engaging conversations and insightful topics, each episode is designed to educate, inspire, and connect.

Episode 1: Introduction to DECI

In our very first episode, we take listeners behind the scenes at Durham Exchange Club Industries, Inc; a nonprofit vocational services provider that has been a part of the Durham community since 1966.

For nearly 60 years, DECI has supported individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment by providing inclusive job training, community employment services, and in-house contract work opportunities. As an ISO 9001-certified organization, we’re deeply committed to quality, dignity, and helping people find purpose through work.

This episode introduces new listeners to our core programs, including:

  • The Adult Developmental Vocational Program (ADVP)

  • Our long-term vocational support services

  • Partnerships with local businesses and government agencies

  • And our growing efforts in advocacy, outreach, and education

Episode 2: Rep. B. Ray Jeffers on Medicaid, Housing, and Disability Rights

In our second episode, we sit down with North Carolina State Representative B. Ray Jeffers for a powerful and timely conversation about public policy, Medicaid access, disability rights, and the role of government in supporting underserved populations.

Topics include:

  • Representative Jeffers’ personal story and path to public service

  • Legislation related to disability services and healthcare

  • Barriers in the system, including transportation and DMV access for group homes

  • What NC can do to protect vulnerable populations from coverage loss

  • How community programs like DECI play a critical role in workforce inclusion

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning.

We’ll be releasing new episodes regularly featuring clients, staff, caregivers, community partners, and elected officials. These conversations will spotlight the hard work and heart that go into making employment accessible and meaningful for all.

Whether you're a supporter, a family member, a business partner, or just discovering DECI for the first time — we invite you to join the conversation.
