Shannon Trapp Visits DECI to Strengthen Community Partnerships

This past week, Durham Exchange Club Industries (DECI) was honored to welcome Shannon Trapp, Director of Community Partnerships and Engagement at Durham County Government, for a thoughtful and energizing visit.

Shannon stopped by DECI as part of her tour of several local organizations committed to equity, innovation, and opportunity in Durham. During her visit, she toured our facility, met with members of our leadership team, and engaged in an open dialogue about DECI’s role in workforce development for individuals with disabilities and other employment barriers.

The conversation focused on how DECI and Durham County can continue to work together to elevate the voices of underserved populations, increase awareness of inclusive employment practices, and find new ways to connect residents with meaningful career paths.

“(DECI) provides meaningful employment, training, and support for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to the workforce. Their programs and social enterprises empower participants to gain independence and purpose, while strengthening Durham’s local economy through workforce development and community collaboration.” - Shannon Trapp

This visit is part of a broader effort by Durham County’s Community Partnerships and Engagement team to connect with organizations making an impact across the region. DECI was proud to be one of three organizations highlighted this week alongside MDC and Families Moving Forward NC, each playing a distinct role in addressing economic mobility, housing, and opportunity.

We are grateful to Shannon Trapp and the entire Durham County Government team for recognizing our work, and we look forward to continued conversations about how to build a more inclusive and thriving Durham.
